Is PS2 gaming retro?

It's probably old enough to qualify, and I think Gamecube and Xbox are also on the cusp of retro, and a syrong case could be made But FIFA 11 is available on PS2 so surely it's still a current hardware platform. I'm getting confuzzled.

No, we sorted this on another thread. PSOne isn't retro yet. Anything pre-PSOne is retro - PSOne is just old and PS2 is last gen.

..or is it so that will make n64 just old then and the sega saturn jsut old? what would be the definition of retro? will the 3ds make the Ps1 retro? i mean does it have to be like 2 gens back or three?

I think it takes a very noticable shift. PSone was the advent of games in 3D. Not that there were no games in 3D before that - but it was an early requirement. There was a clear divide from the 2D games of SNES, Megadrive and Amiga to the 3D games of PSOne.
That hasn't really happened again yet. While there are obviously games that are possible now that weren't before, there are still clear parallels between Gran Turismo 1 and Gran Turismo 5 - or Soul Reaver and Dark Stalkers.
I don't know when it'll happen, but PSone and PStwo era games will become Retro together.

My personal opinion:

ps2
ps3
xbox 360
DS (all)
Wii
PSP (all)
Apple ipad etc

everything not on this list = retro!
